Holdfast Limestone Coast Incorporated is a not for profit organisation that recognises the unique diversity of algae species in our coastline (more than anywhere else in the world) and wants to share this knowledge with the community, hoping to inspire an ongoing commitment for improved stewardship of the marine environment.
We have developed ID Cards showing 13 of the most predominant species from our beaches. These sets of cards are available for $15 each. We plan to develop more cards showcasing other species as funding becomes available.
Friends of Seaweed are the Spotters' group who are observing and recording the algae washed up on our beaches to contribute to a list of what we have now. Records are posted to iNaturalist, an international program which is accessible worldwide. When we know what we have, we can monitor changes in the marine flora occurring due to environmental impacts.
