Go on a nature adventure, report back, win a prize.

This Nature Festival, astronaut Katherine Bennell-Pegg and explorer Tim Jarvis challenge you to go on a nature adventure.
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” - Helen Keller
As an explorer, SA Australian of the year Tim Jarvis traversed Antarctica’s glittering landscapes retracing Douglas Mawson and Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic expeditions.
As Australia's first female astronaut, Katherine Bennell-Pegg has always felt that, like space, your imagination should be limitless.
And both Katherine and Tim both say, you don't have to go to space or Antarctica to have an adventure. Even small challenges and everyday encounters can give you a new perspective.
Through the Nature Festival’s Adventure Challenge, kids and families across the state are invited to set out on a family nature adventure this Spring school holidays and send back a report.
It could be a kid-led micro-adventure in your own backyard, an extra activity to enliven the family camping holiday, or going along to a Nature Festival event. Ideally it involves a little bit of difficulty, is in some way new or unusual for you, and is, above all, fun.
How to write a report
During the adventure you should pay attention to the world around you and how you feel, and then document the result in an ‘adventure report.’
We encourage you to use a whimsical and playful style for your report. Feel free to write it however you like, either on this brochure or directly in an email. If you want somewhere to start, a good report often has four components:
ADVENTURE: What did you set out to do?
EXPEDITION: Who were the expedition members? How did they fare?
ENCOUNTERS: What did nature did you encounter on your journey? What was that like? Did you encounter any difficulties, big or small? How did you overcome them?
PERSPECTIVE: What did you see, notice, or connect to on your adventure? Was anything new or different for you? How did it feel?
