Join Professor Chris Daniels as he discusses Green Adelaide’s exciting rewilding project aiming to reintroduce platypus to the River Torrens / Karrawirra Pari.
This talk will explore the importance of platypus to the river, the historical and ecological challenges that led to their decline, and the steps required to successfully reintroduce them to their natural habitat.
Professor Daniels will also highlight the positive findings from a recent scoping study, which assessed the suitability of the river for platypus. Key findings include an abundance of food sources, low levels of pollution, improved water quality, and suitable submerged habitats. By attending, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the rewilding process, the ecological importance of a healthy river, and the broader impact of this project on native species like long-necked turtles and rakali.
Join us to learn how turning the dream of bringing platypus back to the River Torrens into a reality, will contribute to a healthier and more vibrant ecosystem for all native river fauna.
