Carve your own spoons from fresh green timber!
In this one-day workshop, you’ll learn how to design a functional spoon, use an axe to remove bulk material, and carve complex shapes in three dimensions using a straight knife and hook knife.
During the workshop you will carve your own large serving spoon to take home.
This workshop will cover:
- How a tree grows, wood structure, grain direction
- Design and templates
- Safety
- Species and timber selection
- Axe work
- Carving techniques
- Tool selection, maintenance, and sharpening
- Finishing and oiling
Learn from woodworker Sam Ryan, who specialises in hands-on nature connected crafts, conservation work, and sustainable living.
Participants: suitable for adults and 15-17 year olds (if also accompanied by an adult)
